A New Beginning

     This is a big month – not only for Womeninc but for me as well. On August 30, I will marry Jordan Honnette from Dunnell, Minnesota. We met last summer after growing up only 30 miles from one another. Attending different high schools and colleges, yet involved in similar activities like 4-H, FFA and church youth groups, it seems funny our paths never crossed. I’m so blessed they finally did!
      One of Jordan’s favorite memories from childhood, and a hobby he still enjoys today, are his horses. When he was young and on nights when the moon was full, his father would round up the kids and they’d go for a midnight ride. In a Womeninc poll on our Web site, www.readthestories.com, 72 percent claimed they “love” horses. Beginning on page 20, we meet four women equestrians who share this love, one of whom qualified for state her first year competing in high school rodeo.
      Also in this issue, get to know Ethel Sankey, a delightful 103-year-old woman. When I met her, she was working on quilt number 210! Sewing every stitch with love, she gives the quilts to members of her family. Ethel exudes the wisdom and quiet strength of a life well lived. Read her story on page 55.
      Jamaica native Michelle Oman has a passion for running. Her grandfather was the first to notice her talent and encouraged her to participate in running events. Now the assistant track coach at Minnesota State University in Mankato, running is still an important part of Michelle’s lifestyle. She has participated in college track, marathons and several 10k and 5k road races. Learn more about Michelle on page 26.
      I’m counting down the days to my wedding and enjoying every moment. Upon news of our engagement, Jordan’s coworker Marvin Garbers made the comment that “this is where life begins.” I am excited for this new beginning.
